Hillcrest Mine Disaster Memorial

BulletDescription

This is the final resting site for victims of Canada's worst mining disaster, a 1914 explosion that killed 189 miners, leaving 130 women widowed and 400 children fatherless. Ruins include the engine house. A monument dedicated to all but six of the miners, who were returned home to Nova Scotia to be buried, was erected in the centre of the cemetery in 2000.
