The Saint-Maurice River flows 523 km (325 mi) from its source in the mountains before emptying into the St. Lawrence River at Trois-Rivieres. Over the centuries the river has been used by fur traders and the logging industry. It is now a source of hydroelectric power for the province of Quebec.

This fishing festival takes place along the Shawinigan River and St. Maurice River. Kiosks are set up allowing participants to register and store their catches. Various restaurants join in the fun preparing the trout caught for taste-testing.
