December 2007 — "Every year at Christmas time, the Calgary Zoo is lit up with colourful light displays. Zoo Lights is one of those festive activities you should try at least once. It gets you into the holiday spirit. I went last year for the first time and was most impressed. It was great walking around at night and taking in the magnificent light displays. I'm looking forward to seeing what new displays Zoo Lights has this holiday season."

October 2007 — "Coming from Nova Scotia and being an avid animal lover and activist this was an amazing experience that I will remember for years. The atmosphere was magical and I never thought I could leave a zoo not feeling sad for the animals before I came to the Calgary Zoo. We had an amazing time even though my boyfriend and I were probally the only people there without children. But the fact that we weren't bothered by anyone or didn't feel silly for being there makes it a place for kids of all ages! And artists and photographers alike. It was amazing and I will be back many more times."

"Where is the family pass?"

September 2007 — "It was fun visiting the Calgary zoo. For a family of five, it was also a hefty fee to pay for a day's visit. It was very dissappointing and a shock that there was no family pass that can be purchased. How can average families enjoy the zoo on a regular basis when it is almost unaffordable? Please consider handing out family daily passes as well as annual passes so every family can enjoy the beautiful and educational visit to the Calgary zoo. Thank you!"

August 2007 — "I took some out of town guests to the Calgary Zoo and was shocked to find that it cost almost $20 a person to get in. We spent most of the time walking around not seeing very many animals. We arrived in the morning and stayed until 4pm and hardly saw anything. This ended up being a very expensive walking trip. I've been to the zoo on many other occasions and this was also the case. Where did all the animals go? Also, the layout and design of the zoo is not very good and if you don't arrive early in the morning you'll be out of luck finding a parking spot. If you end up parking at the North entrance instead of the closer West entrance, you'll have a lot of walking to do."

"Visit Dinny the Dinosaur"

August 2007 — "One spectacular highlight of our visit to the Calgary Zoo was to see Dinny the Dinosaur, a huge concrete beast weighing 125 tons and hand-built in 1937 by Finnish immigrant John Kanerva. Dinny was the first landmark in Calgary before the now called Calgary Tower was built in modern times. Dinny holds several secrets about its sculpting by John Kanerva and his two sons Bill and Jack. We recommend that every visitor see Dinny and learn the historical legacy John Kanerva left the citizens of Calgary. Dinny is a Registered Historical Resource so declared on August 25, 1987."

"Dissapointing"Alejandro
August 2007 — "I had a lot of expections before going to the zoo; but the moment I arrived I realized I was wrong. First of all the layout is very poor; the moment you enter the zoo; the first thing you see are the gift shops. The general layout of the park is poor; the paths are very narrow and some places are "hidden"; you have to spent a lot of time trying to find certain animals; but you can easily find pepsi stand.
Regarding the variety animals the zoo has; generally speaking it is ok; but the zoo does not have any animals from the North Pole; the cages are too small; seeing a lion in a cage as big as a bedroom; or seeing an eagle in a 4 meters high cage is just sad. The animals are always laying down; like if they were dead (I do not blame). Finally the rare animals are never in the cages; so many times you only get to see a cage with grass"

July 2007 — "I was excited about going to this famous zoo. However, on the day I visited, there's half of the animal missing from the exhibit...not to mentione that the poor design of the exhibits which is quiet disappointing. In addition, I think the Zoo is poorly designed compared to all the others zoos that I visited in other countries, like Singapore Zoo, Thailand Ching-Mai Zoo, San Diego Zoo, and Australia Zoo. If Calgary zoo intend to maintain it's established name to attract visitors worldwide, then I think there's major improvements need to be done. "

"Hibernating Dinosaurs"Dana
January 2007 — "All the excitement and anticipation I felt entering the gate had well and truly evaporated by the time I left. There is a lot to see, but I'm sure I didn't get to see all of it. Even the little map in my hand didn't help. Some of the intriguing little paths seemed to lead to nowhere, and no matter how persistent I was, I just couldn't find those dang dinosaurs. By the end of the day I was exhausted from walking around in circles."

"Buy an annual pass"Zackery
September 2006 — "Some people are zoo people and some people aren't. Well, if you belong to the former group, then the Calgary Zoo is great. I've purchased an annual pass for the past several years (I've got two- and three-year-old boys) so, as you can imagine, we go all the time. The newish exhibits are fantastic (Destination Africa) and the almost-renovated Elephant exhibit is shaping up to be a crowd pleaser. If you plan on going to the zoo even a few times during the course of year, I'd highly recommend buying an annual pass. You can sometimes bypass the long entrance lineups and you won't fret about wasting money over short visits.
I've also gone to the zoo for my office Christmas party. Last time we booked a behind-the-scenes tour of the Giraffe exhibit and it was a hit (you may have to book a year in advance for Christmas parties).
If I could make a simple change at the zoo, I'd change the exit procedure at the south gate. The outer gate (just before the road) is manual, and must be pulled toward you, making it really difficult to exit if you are pushing a stroller or wheel chair. Also, once you manage to get through the gate, you are immediately confronted with a busy road. This has proven to be unsafe and awkward. Maybe they should set the second gate back from the road or get rid of it completely."

DescriptionThe Calgary Zoo features more than 1,000 animals from all over the world. The Canadian Wilds, Aspen Woodlands, Rocky Mountains and the Northern Forests habitats are dedicated to animals native to North America. The Botanical Garden features several different gardens including a Butterfly Garden, a Tropical Garden and an Arid Garden. Near the main zoo entry point is the entrance to the Prehistoric Park, which features life-size models of dinosaurs that existed in the Mesozoic Period.
