February 2006 — "No trip to Montreal is complete without a visit to the Basilique Notre Dame in the city's old town. Everything about the cathedral is impressive - its size and architectural grandeur, its gold-plated, back-lit altar and stained glass windows, even its location on the picturesque Place d'Armes square. Touristy? yes. Admission fee? yes. Worth it? Entirely!"

This is one of the largest churches on the continent, and is truly worth a visit. The church has one of the world's largest pipe organs and a carillon in one tower and a huge bell in the other. Guided tours are available.
