The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is a unique outdoor living museum that tells the story of Ukrainian immigrants and their settlement history in central Alberta from 1892 to the 1930s. Costumed role players recreate the lives of authentic pioneers and 35 relocated and restored buildings bring history to life. The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village opens for the 2017 summer season on Saturday, May 20. Located only 25 minutes east of Edmonton along Highway 16 on the east side of Elk Island National Park.

Celebration of Spring
May 22
Welcome the start of a new season at the Ukrainian Village with Celebration of Spring. Take in one of Alberta's largest Ukrainian dance extravaganzas featuring numerous dance groups of all ages from across Alberta. Meanwhile, in the historical village, families can visit with costumed role players and celebrate spring on the farm with a full day of authentic activities.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for seating.
Harvest of the Past and Harvest Food Festival

Taking visitors back to Alberta’s agricultural roots, this final event of the Village's summer season recreates an old-fashioned threshing bee complete with vintage farm equipment and grain deliveries to the historic elevator.
Other historical activities include flower and herb drying, feather stripping, grinding wheat, quilting, and canning produce from the museum’s heritage gardens. The Harvest Food Festival offers a unique culinary experience for visitors to taste foods from the region.
Vintage Day/Kalyna Voice

Step on the gas, drive back in time and enjoy a spectacular display of vintage vehicles at the Ukrainian Village. This family fun day includes Kalyna Voice singing competition, children’s activities, free horse-drawn wagon rides, exhibits, entertainers, historic activities, traditional Ukrainian food and a Village Market.

Finalists will perform at our annual singing competition, Kalyna Voice where singers from across Alberta will sing “vintage” songs (pre 1970). This contest showcases the provinces best young singers; co-hosted by Kalyna Country Ecomuseum. Come celebrate Vintage Day and view a spectacular display of historic and specialized vehicles! This fun day includes children's activities, wagon rides, exhibits, entertainers, historic activities, traditional Ukrainian food and a Village Market.

A celebration of Alberta’s vibrant Ukrainian community past and present, Ukrainian Day is
co-hosted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Alberta Provincial Council.

The day starts with a pancake breakfast, and recognition of east central Alberta’s centennial pioneer families. During the afternoon enjoy our ever popular Ukrainian Day concert, Ukrainian Arts’ showcase and art sale, village market, children’s activities and Ukrainian Village food festival.
Friends Ukrainian Music Fest

Experience a live concert blending traditional and contemporary Ukrainian-Canadian music at the 31st annual Music Fest presented by the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society.
Bring a lawn chair and spend the afternoon with Steven Chwok of CFCW’s Zabava Program and Alberta’s most popular bands and musicians.

Experience one of the most important holy days of the Ukrainian church calendar. Iordan, also known as the Feast of the Epiphany, is observed annually at the end of the Ukrainian Christmas season to commemorate the baptism of Christ.

Attend a water blessing ceremony at an ice cross following church services. Bring a glass jar and collect a small amount of holy water to take home after the blessing. Explore a number of historical buildings where costumed role players can demonstrate how Ukrainian pioneers celebrated this special day.
