Barrier Lake is a man-made reservoir at the northernmost portion of Kananaskis Country. The entire lake is completely enveloped by the Bow Valley Provincial Park. Highway 40 runs along the eastern shore through the whole park. Gasoline powered watercraft are allowed on the lake, but watersports are rarely done here due to the low temperature of the water year-round.
