Stoney Lake, located in Alberta's Lakeland region, is less than a half hour's drive from the towns of St. Paul and Elk Point and offers swimming, boating and fishing. The recreational area includes a campground operated by Alberta Tourism that is open from May until September and has various facilities including a children's play area, gazebo and beach volleyball area. A bandstand is also located near the lake and is host to the annual Elk Point Classic Stampede every July.

This annual, two-day event usually takes place the first weekend of July and is held at the Elk Point Fairgrounds or outside of town at Stoney Lake. The stampede features rodeo events, food and family fun.
