March 2009 — "Having been to the Madame Tussaud's in London, I came with lowered expectations as to what to expect of this museum. It was interesting, but I don't know if I would go again. The museum is only a fraction of the size as London's, no surprises there. There aren't many contemporary figures here either -- mainly historical ones. Some were very convincing, others seemed more like charicatures, or 'close but not quite' in terms of how identical they appeared. Figures included Queen Elizabeth, Princess Ann, Kind Henry VIII and his six wives, Gordie Howe, Bill Clinton and a whole section of US presidents (George Bush was one of the most convincing). There were also some famous authors, like Mark Twain and Jonathon Swift. I appreciated that there was a guide who walked around to talk to people and give them some history about the historical figures. There was also a downstairs that lead into a room of horrors (for parents, this room can be easily avoided by veering to the left leading straight into a fairytale room instead). They had a historical account of who Madame Tussaud was, as well as various wax figures being tortured. I am slightly disturbed by the fact that I wasn't that disturbed by it all. There was a guillotine, a basket of heads -- that kind of thing. All and all, it is an interesting exhibit and kind of a fun thing to do if you are in town."
